Poor time management, messy workspace, and lack of motivation, among other things, can make doing homework challenging. Luckily, these difficulties can easily be solved. Then, it becomes a much more pleasant process.
With a new term starting at Don Valley Academy, it is the perfect time to freshen up students’ strategies for tackling homework. Read on to know how to be more productive and efficient when doing schoolwork.
Set aside specific time for each task
Unless you have a specific plan, it is easy to start procrastinating. To avoid this problem, estimate how much time you need to complete each task. It is also beneficial to figure out which homework is a priority.
Start with tasks that have the quickest deadline. Then work your way through assignments without taking frequent breaks to find out what you should do next.
Figure out what things you will need
You would be surprised to learn how much time is wasted searching for supplies between tasks. To be more efficient, it is crucial to create a comfortable workspace. So, before you dive into the work, make sure you have gathered everything you will need.
Whether that is your laptop, textbooks, calculators, pens or pencils, make sure each item is within an easy reach. If you constantly interrupt your study session to look for supplies you need, it will be much more challenging to stay focused.
Change the scene
Sometimes, it is normal to lose your motivation – it happens to most of us. In this case, a change of scenery can do wonders. If you are used to studying in your room, try doing your homework in the dining room or your parents’ office.
Some people have trouble focusing in the home environment. If that is true also for you, consider doing your schoolwork in the library. Once every while, changing the scene can have its advantages. Not only can that boost your motivation, but also confidence.
Tackle them as early as possible
If you have just finished your school day, you might have the temptation of postponing doing homework until later in the evening, but that is a common mistake. Regardless of whether you consider yourself a morning person or a night owl, numerous studies suggest that working in the morning and earlier in the day is way better for productivity.
With afternoon activities, that may not always be possible, but – when you have the option – make sure to tackle homework as early as possible.
Start with the most challenging assignments
Complex tasks require more energy and mental power, which is why it is essential to complete them first. Then, once you have finished them, you can move on to simpler assignments for which you don’t need to be as focused.
This way, doing homework will also be less stressful because you won’t have to think and worry about the more complicated tasks still ahead of you.
